After weeks of economic intrigue and maneuvering, Trump has dropped the hammer: a full embargo on China, no imports of any kind — medicine, tech, food — all cut off to punish Beijing for buying crude from Iran. Secondary sanctions now threaten any nation trading with Tehran, effectively daring the world to abandon the dollar. As the dollar hemorrhages credibility and BRICS consolidates, the domestic fallout will be called “unforeseen.” It isn’t.
On cue, Trump’s media flank cries sabotage — Mossad agents, warmongers, deep state foes blocking peace with Iran — all while his Pentagon is filled up with the same tired warhawks from past regimes. As I see it, these protestations reek of pretense so as to make the looming war with Iran look reluctant. Meanwhile, RFK Jr. has ordered placebo trials for all new vaccines — a rare strike at vaccine orthodoxy, but one that is carried out only by executive fiat. Whether these changes will be lasting ones to the approval process remains to be seen.
